Meditation
The practice of Meditation is very central to nearly all forms of Buddhism (cycle of rebirth), and it is directly from the Buddah's experiences and teachings. Meditation is the central focus of Zen Buddhism and the only way to liberation in Theravada Buddhism. So, Meditation is simply the mental concentration and mindfulness that leads ultimately to enlightenment and spiritual freedom. There are two types of Meditation.
1) Vipassana (Insight Meditation): the realization to important truths. It is the primary form of the meditation practiced in Theravada Buddhism.Ones who practices Vipassana hopes to realize the truth of suffering. A tyle of Insight Meditation is the Sitting Meditation
2)Samatha (Tranquillity Meditation):
"still the mind"meaning to concentrateThe goal of samatha meditation is to progress through four stages (dhyanas):
-Detachment from the external world and a consciousness of joy and tranquility;
-Concentration, with suppression of reasoning and investigation;
-The passing away of joy, but with the sense of tranquility remaining; and
-The passing away of tranquility also, bringing about a state of pure self-possession and equanimity.

Mantras
The Mantras are sacred words/sounds that is believed to gather supernatural powers. The mantra means "that protects which the mind" and is usually chanted by the Tibetan Buddhists.
-mantras are often used for protection from evil and misfortune
-mantras are also used to feel self comfort or pray to the passed away ancestors.
